1 February - Preparation of Holy Hypapanty
2 February - The Great Feast of the Holy Hypapanty of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ commemorates the first encounter or public meeting of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ as God in human form with His people. Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ met with a priest, Holy Simeon the Just who recieved the Lord,
and a prophetess, Anne the Prophetess, when He was brought to the temple for the rite of purification forty days after His birth. (Forty days after birth was the prescribed time according to Jewish law.)
By accepting the precept of the Jewish Law requiring a
sacrifice on the child's 40th day, Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ shows that He is the fulfillment of the promises of the Old Testament.
The Priest Simeon and the Prophetess Anna recognized the Baby as the Messiah (Masiah).
The Greek word "hypapanty" means "encounter" or "meeting".
"Simeon" is a Greek name with of the English translation "Simon".
Churching a Baby is a continuation of the ancient practice of presenting children in the Temple.
Candles are blessed on this Great Feast
In the West, Holy Hypapanty is called "The Presentation of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ to the Temple".
This Feast is also the "Great Feast of the Purification of The Theotokos". After giving birth, a Jewish woman was purified

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants
Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no
grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for
there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and
the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your
all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
