Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 251, he renounced his wealth and went into the desert, where he lived as a hermit, battling temptation and praying constantly. His holiness attracted many disciples and imitators. He died at the age of 105. As youth, he became an orphan. St. Antony renounced hiswealth, sold his possessions, gave his money to the poor, and went into the desert willderness. There, he he lived as a hermit, prayed constantly, battled temptation, meditated, and did manual work. Holy and God-bearing Father Antony the Great's holiness attracted many disciples and imitators. He was imitated in Eqypt, Libya, Palestine, and Syria. On January 17, 356, Holy and God-bearing Father Antony the Great died at the age of 105.
