Text from St. Joseph Melkite Catholic Church in Lawrence, MA 01841 and Rt. Rev. Fr. Joe Francavilla. Father / Abouna Joe Francavilla was a priest/Abouna of the the Eparchy of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation (Al Bisharah) in Roslindale, MA), United States.

Priest / Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, have mercy.

Priest: O Lord, you brought all things to perfection through your word. You commanded the earth to bring forth all kinds of fruits and food for our needs. Through grain and vegetables you made the three Children and Daniel fairer than the Babylonians who lived in luxury. Now, O All loving King, bless this grain and fruit, and sanctify those who offered them and those who partake of them: for they have been offered by your servants to your glory, and in honor and memory of the Holy Great Martyr Theodore or the Holy Great Martyr Barbara. Grant, O Good Lord, to those who have brought this offering and who keep this memorial, all their petitions which are for their salvation, and count them worthy to rejoice in your eternal blessings, through the prayers of our most pure Lady the Theotokos and Ever virgin Mary, and the intercession of the Holy Great Martyr Theodore or the Holy Great Martyr Barbara whose memory we celebrate today and of all your saints.

For you bless and sanctify all things, O Christ our God, and to you we render glory, and to your Eternal Father and your All-holy, Good and Life giving Spirit, now and always and for ever and ever.

Response: Amen.

The word “offering” was changed to the word “donation”.

N.B. In the Blessing of the Cooked Wheat, 6th line, please replace the word donated by offered. I am grateful to the Rt. Rev. Fr. Joe Francavilla for this elegant suggestion.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
