The Glorious Entry into Jerusalem
John 12:1-18. At that time, in the enthusiasm over Lazarus return to life, many people gathered along the road as Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ came with his disciples. Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ rode an ass (donkey). Many people escorted Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ into Jerusalem proclaiming Him as King of Israel. Children threw their garments into Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ's path and pulled down branches from the olive and palm trees and put them in the road and waved them in the air, shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"
According to tradition, many children were in the crowd. This is why we have the custom of making this day a special one for the children.

Procession

On Great Feast of The Triumphal Entry of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ into Jerusalem - Holy and Glorious Palm Sunday - Shaneeneh , the people reenact reenact the procession mentioned in the Gospel. The Procession is held after the prayer before the Ambon. The people carry the olive branches, palm branches, and specially decorated candles. We sing the Great Doxology with the following between the verses.

Hosanna in the highest, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
or
Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to the King who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hoshanna fil'alee, mubarakun il atee bismir Rub. Hoshanna Ibn-Daood, mubarakun il atee bismir Rub.

This reenactment procession began during the fourth century where the glorious entrance into Jerusalem had occurred. There was a public reading of the Gospel in which Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ is hailed as the King of Israel. Then, a bishop riding an ass and surrounded by many people carrying palms and singing hymns went to the Church of the Resurrection. Eventually, this procession spread to all Eastern Churches and it was adopted by the Latin Cathollic Church in 1039.

Feasting

Great Feast of The Triumphal Entry of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ into Jerusalem - Holy and Glorious Palm Sunday - Shaneeneh - Divine Liturgy is a time of feasting, not fasting.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
