In the Holy Mystery of Repentance, Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ forgives our sins.

Repentance is the Holy Mystery which gives us access to Holy God's forgiveness, to spiritual healing, and to reconciliation. We ask forgiveness of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Priest gives us a special blessing called absolution as a sign of our reconciliation with Holy God.

Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ wants us to ask for forgiveness after we have sinned.

Procedure

A person confesses to Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ through the medium of the Catholic Church. Usually, the person faces the ikon of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ and talks to Him. This action is to remind us by whose power our sins are forgiven. However, Repentance may be in any secluded part of the church.

The priest, as the earthly representative of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ, stands at the right of the person and transmits Holy God's forgiveness via absolution. At the time of absolution, the priest may place the two ends of his epitrachelion (stole), which is the sign of priesthood, on the penitent's head. Then, the priest recites the prayer of absolution. These actions are a tangible sign that Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christs grace has overshadowed the penitent and restored him to a state of friendship with God.

The necessary conditions are: confession, the laying on of the Priests hands, and the prayer of absolution.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
