The priest says one of two prayers. First PrayerThis Prayer for Traveler text is from Byzantine Melkite Euchologion published by the Eparchy of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation (Al Bisharah)), in Roslindale, Massachusetts, United States. Priest: Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, have mercy. Priest: O God our God, the true and living Way, who accompanied your servants Joseph and Tobias on their way and who sailed with your holy disciples and apostles in the ship; who rebuked the stormy wind and who calmed the huge waves; You who make the clouds your chariot, and who travel on the wings of the wind, bless this your servant (handmaid) (Name), who is about to travel. Protect him (her) from all danger and difficulty. Enable him (her) to carry out his (her) good intentions, and bestow upon him (her) your spiritual and temporal blessings. Grant him (her) a safe and sound return to his (her) parents and family. That with them, he (she) may glorify your most noble and magnificent name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen. Second PrayerPriest: Let us pray to the Lord. Response: Lord, have mercy. May God, who makes the clouds His conveyance and travels on the wings of the wind, and who accompanied Paul and the Apostles safely on their voyages, grant you a safe trip and return, and an enjoyable and fruitful visit, so that you can glorify Him always and for ever and ever. Amen.
