Preparation

The Triodion is the time of preparation for Holy and Glorious Pascha.

Theologians disagree on the length of the Triodion.
The Eparchy of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation (Al Bisharah) in Roslindale, Massachusetts, United States) published the The Lenten Triodion (four volumes). This publication contains the texts for the services from The Sunday of the Pharisee and the Publican through Palm Sunday -- Shaneeneh.

Some theologians think that the Triodion ends and the Pentecostarion begins with the invitation to "Come, take light from the Light that never fades" at the beginning of the Hajmeh service Holy and Glorious Pascha, which is celebrated on Great and Holy Saturday night.
Hajmeh or Procession of Haste or Breaking Down the Gates of Hades
In the darkened church, the priest comes out from the Holy Doors holding his lighted Paschal candle and solemnly sings, "Come and take light from the Light that never fades; come and glorify Christ who is risen from the dead!" All the people come forward and light their candles from the priest's candle.
Then the people go out of the church to the front door. There a table is prepared for the Holy Gospel. The priest and the altar servers come out of the church to the table.
Gospel - St Mark (16:1-8))

According to the Eparchy of Newton, the Triodion has ten Sundays in three groups:

According to some theologians, the Triodion has nine weeks in three groups: Please remember that Sunday is the last day of the week during this period.

  • First three weeks: the day after the Sunday of Pharisee and the Publican until the Sunday of Cheese fare
  • Next 6 weeks: Great Lent -- Clean Monday until the last day of Great Lent and Lazarus Saturday
  • Palm Sunday -- Shaneeneh:

This period is called the Triodion because only tri (3) odes are said in the canon at Orthros during this time. Usually, nine odes are said.

Fasting

After Meat fare Sunday, traditionally no flesh (skin and meat) from a vertebrate, which is an animal with a spine / backbone (mammals, birds, fish, etc.), and shellfish is eaten until Holy and Glorious Pascha. Then, we are "vegaterian".
After Cheese fare Sunday, traditionally no product from a vertebrate, which is an animal with a spine / backbone (mammals, birds, fish, etc.), such as milk, eggs, butter, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. (these items are often called "dairy products" in the United States) is eaten until Holy and Glorious Pascha. O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
