Great Feast of Pentecost - Fourth Sunday after - Centurion's Servant
Apostolos
Letter of St Paul to the Romans Chapter 6, verses 18-23 (Rom. 6:18-23) - This letter
provides an understanding of how the Holy, Glorious and Illustrious Prince of the Apostles Paul was able to take the Gospel to the
Gentiles.
The Holy, Glorious and Illustrious Prince of the Apostles Paul writes that the people who are under the Law of Moses (the
Jews) will be judged according to how they follow the Law and that
those who are not under the Law (the Gentiles) will be judged according
to how they follow the will of Holy God, which is like a "law written on
their hearts." In order to be saved, all people, both Jews and
Gentiles, must follow the law of Holy God according to the way in which Holy God
has given it to them.
Gospel
Matthew 4:18-23 - This Gospel tells the
story of the healing of the Centurion's servant.
This Roman
army officer is not a Jew, not one of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ' own people. But, the Centurion has faith
that Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ can heal his beloved and devoted servant, who is very ill.
The Centurion is so humble that he tells Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ that he is not worthy that Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ
should come into his home, and so full of faith that he tells Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
"only say the word and my servant will be healed."
The Centurion
becomes a model for all Christians, showing us that faith in Holy God is what
is important, not where a person was born, or what group he belongs to,
or any other human distinction.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants
Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no
grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for
there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and
the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your
all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
